After years of sketchbooks, scribbles, and serendipitous stories, I’m absolutely thrilled to welcome you to the newly refreshed website for The Way We Are. This has been a long time coming, and finally putting pen to digital paper (so to speak) feels a bit like stepping into a freshly painted studio with a cup of tea in hand and a world of possibilities ahead.
The idea behind The Way We Are has always been rooted in a deep love for observation. Whether it’s a glance exchanged between café regulars, the slow parade of a village cat across the square, or the absurdity of daily life (and yes, there’s plenty of that!), I’ve always tried to capture moments that might otherwise go unnoticed. This new space gives me the chance not just to show my artwork, but to talk a little more about what inspires it, share glimpses behind the scenes, and offer up some thoughts, stories, and musings along the way.
Many of you will know that my work straddles both France and the UK. I feel incredibly lucky to have one foot in the Sussex of my childhood and another planted in the beautiful, if slightly chaotic, countryside of rural France. These two places shape my creative perspective in very different but equally joyful ways. Here on the blog, I hope to write more about what it means to live and draw between two cultures – and how even the smallest of differences can provide the most charming material.
You can also expect updates about new series I’m working on, what projects are in the pipeline (including some very exciting print and card collections!), and maybe the occasional ramble about books, food, or my latest battle with our particularly stubborn garden weeds. I also hope this will become a place for conversation – so if a particular post makes you smile, reminds you of something, or even just prompts a raised eyebrow, do feel free to leave a comment.
So whether you’re here as a longtime fan of the illustrations, a curious newcomer, or simply stumbled upon the site while searching for cartoon cats with attitude (we have those in spades), I’m delighted to have you here. Let’s see where this new chapter takes us.
